STAMFORD - Greenwich-based UST Inc., the world's largest maker of smokeless tobacco products, plans to relocate its corporate headquarters and 350 employees to Stamford's High Ridge Park office complex by late summer.

UST, whose brands include Skoal, Copenhagen, Red Seal and Husky, said last month that it would leave Greenwich for smaller quarters elsewhere in Connecticut.

'We did an extensive search, and that was the one we chose,' UST spokesman Mark Rozelle said of High Ridge Park. 'We looked in other states as well as other parts of Fairfield County. It looks like a beautiful facility, and it looks like our people are excited to move into our new home.'

All employees have chosen to stay with the company after the move, Rozelle said. The new location is within 10 miles of UST's current headquarters at 100 W. Putnam Ave. in Greenwich and is 2 miles closer on average to employees' homes, he said. UST has been in Greenwich since 1970.

'They are relieved it is so close and easy to get to,' Rozelle said.

A multimillion-dollar tax incentive that Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced last month persuaded the company to stay in the state, Rozelle said.

UST had agreed to stay in Connecticut and keep a minimum of 350 employees here for at least 10 years. In return, the company will receive a $3 million low-interest loan for leasehold improvements and equipment. After three years, UST also will be eligible for $950,000 worth of tax credits, which it can draw down over seven years, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development said last month.

Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy started asking the company to consider Stamford soon after Rell's announcement, according to UST.......

Don't expect to just zip right through Westchester County Airport this holiday season.

Most of the zipping going on will be that of plastic bags required by federal security agents for toiletries and other liquid items that passengers want to keep in their carry-on luggage.

Facing an influx of holiday passengers and the busiest time of the year, airport officials said they are taking a number of steps to ease travel hassles, including giving out free quart-size plastic bags to passengers unfamiliar with new security regulations. Passengers are limited to one quart-sized bag in their carry-on luggage. Toiletries and liquid containers cannot exceed 3 ounces. Airport employees are also supplying plastic bags for travelers to put metal items in while they wait to pass through security.

'Our goal is that when people travel in and out of here, it's a good experience. We don't want to ruin their vacation,' said Peter Scherrer, manager of the suburban Rye Brook airport.

Despite the steps taken to make things easier for the thousands that will pass through the airport, Scherrer recommended that passengers leave an extra hour early for their departure.......
