Four declare intent to run for B.B. Board of Education
Lawrence Engle will not seek another term

With petitions due on Monday to the district office, four candidates have emerged thus far for a three-year seat on the Blind Brook Board of Education. Wendy Adler, Jeff Diamond, Peter Raider and Glen Schuster all confirmed this week that they will be running for two open seats on the board. Three-term board member Lawrence Engle will not seek a fourth term. The election will be held on May 17 along with the vote on the 2011-12 budget.
Engle cited increasing time demands as a major reason for his decision in an interview on Tuesday. “The bottom line is that the time commitment to do this job properly has grown immeasurably over the last nine years.”
He said the board’s increasing use of advisory committees as a way to engage the public resulted in more time being required by board members to take part in them. “This is a very involved board,” he said......

B.B. board approves budget with .7% tax levy increase

The Blind Brook Board of Education unanimously approved a $39.6 million budget Wednesday evening which will raise the tax levy by .7%, if it is approved by voters on May 17. Due to a drop in district-wide assessments by more than eight percent, the tax rates will rise at a higher rate.
